"Exchange of goods for goods. that might be money for a CD, it might be a chicken for a blowjob."
Shawn Gordon
Unfortunately we are facing with a person that we cant find words to describe. For 2 weeks we have been attacking by a record owner who even dont hesistate to see his own artists as meta of his economy. In one month lots of the prog/psych communities shutdown with the pressure of this person.
During 2 years we sent approximetely 1000 albums and we get "0" negative feedback. Instead it becomes a place of listeners & artists that met in many comments. We believe like many other blogs, this place garanted a piece of love to undiscovered/uncommon music, from all over the world. If there exists any unhappy authorized owner of the albums that we sent, they can always send a message for the abuse.
We believe artists should free from economic things, but none of us want this to happen with cold rules.
WE ARE OFF TO THE LABELS & ARTISTS WHO HAS POTENTİAL TO PUT THEİR LISTENERS IN AN ILLEGAL POSITION.
Regards
-naha

If it's so silly, why are you so worked up? Any publicity is good publicity, after all--particularly for a band nobody ever heard of.
Sales are up now?? :)
"music is our gun!"
Music is YOUR gun?
God! You believe it is yours?
Are you really that ignorant?
You think that music made by others is yours?
No wonder you think you can do what you want. You obviously have no sense for others property.
You pretend to be so friendly but you are no less than egoistic thieves.
"Your boycott is the silliest method this far in your stupid fight for your rights to steal others work."
Isn't this just complying exactly with what ProgRecords wanted. Mr Gordon doesn't want any of his bands appearing on the blogs. So why not do it. No links, no discussions, no recommendations, no mention at all of those bands currently on his label.
After all, isn't it the case that those people who frequent the blogs and download music are not true fans and do not buy the CDs.
Or perhaps it's actually true that those people frequenting the blogs are actually the majority of prog fans worldwide and if they boycotted ProgRecords then it would be a bit of a disaster for those bands.
What do you think Mr Proggo, should all the blogs comply exactly with what Mr Gordon wants?
"Isn't this just complying exactly with what ProgRecords wanted. Mr Gordon doesn't want any of his bands appearing on the blogs. So why not do it. No links, no discussions, no recommendations, no mention at all of those bands currently on his label."
Dear Mr Anonymous,
Exactly. Why do you think I see the boycott as silly? I mean, as if he cares that you guys stop stealing their releases.
It's soo stupid when you are threatening with stuff like that.
The same goes for your other arguments like "If you don't let us steal it, we will not buy it!"
I mean...hellooo!
How contradictous can a abberrated criminal mind get?
Seriously...you are soo into proving that your "wrongs" is right that you can not reason in an even semi intelligent way.
"I mean, as if he cares that you guys stop stealing their releases."
He will care, if, as the poster above suspects, the majority of the world's prog fans inhabit the blogs.
I also wonder whether Mr Gordon is in fact representing the views of all his bands. Will they be pleased if they are boycotted by the prog blogs becauase of Mr Gordon's actions.
Funny isn't it. Mr Gordon says to the blogs 'stop stealing my CDs'. A poster suggests just that and you come back and say the poster is being silly.
On the contrary, perhaps then Mr Gordon will leave the blogs alone.
Dear Downloaders,
Feel free to add the following Progress Records bands to your "boycott-list":

For the benfit of the blogsphere, I've combined both lists (including taking out the duplicate names that appear on both lists and also adding those bands that are sold on the Progress Records web site). If blog owners who read this agree, then we can disseminate this list throughout the community and act accordingly.
Suggested actions are:
1. Don't discuss, link, or recommend any music recorded by these bands.
2. Don't upload or download any music recorded by these bands.
3. Don't purchase any CD's manufactured or distributed by the two labels (ProgRecords and Progress Records.)
4. (If you feel the need) 'Torrent them into oblivion'

Of course, if any of these bands don't wish to be associated with the actions of Shawn and Hansi, I'm sure they can contact blog owners granting them permission to upload albums.
And finally, if we agree to the foregoing, perhaps Shawn Gordon and Hansi from ProgRecords and Progress Records will remove themselves from the blogsphere.
Let me add the following to the list of artists your blog fans can boycott. We really don't care.
IQ
Jadis
Steve Thorne
John Wetton
Renaissance
Threshold
In fact you can boycott any album I've ever played on or released on the GEP label.
If we want promotion we'll ASK for it. Blogs that give away free copyright material do nothing but harm to recording artists so let's disassociate ourselves from each other now and forever.
Ahhh, the royal "we" who "really don't care" but can't seem to pry "themselves" away from a community that admittedly finds "their" music useless.
Oh no, you don't care at all. Not even a little bit. You have such a busy schedule, and you work so hard.
How are sales lately, by the way? :) :)
You could do with a bit of promotion. Your label seems incapable, as evidenced by the fact I'd never even heard of you. I've never heard of any of these artists, bar three (and those three are a wee bit past their sell-by date, though it's comforting to know they're out to pasture somewhere or other).
The first time most listeners even heard of the artistes is in connection with your own floundering through the blogosphere, making friends and influencing people. Now there's a connection that will stick. THAT is some serious branding! Ingenious. It can only help the bands...oh, absolutely. That's exactly what they say among themselves, too. They love you. Of course they do! Would they lie to you? Would you lie to them? ;)
How's your marketshare? How's that business model treating you? How well are you regarded by that ever-expanding fanbase? I'm sure your bands are delighted with everything you do and say on their behalf. Really they are. Under your stewardship, they're well on their way to becoming rich and famous!! They'll know exactly who to thank... and how.
How are sales? :) :)
Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for asking.
Sales have slightly increased since we removed lots of Progress Records releases from the blogs.
We are giving away 1-2 free tracks from many of our albums. This seems to be enough for most people in order to decide if they are interested or not. These you can find at more and more places.
We have never been against fans running blogs. Only the one's who think they have the right to use the artists work for their own purpose. All the way we have welcomed co-opertaion with fans, bloggers and music societies.
But not on the conditions that they can upload the entire albums.
I have real difficulties in understanding why you guys are fighting so hard for your "rights" to use others work in any way you want. It is totally disrespectful towards the artists you claim to like so much. It really is.
Your arguments are very strange.
As someone wrote; You are threatening the artists with very peculiar arguments such as "if we can not have your music for free we will not buy it".
A true paradox.
Anyway...thanks for asking. Sales have started to increase since we removed most of the Progress Records releases from the "sharing" blogs.
The reason is that we choose to work in ethical ways. We pay our bands, we do all we can to support them and we work with ethical bloggers.
Yes, your sales are increasing.... jumpin from 1 to 2 by year.
Fantastic bands in your catalog, an essencial contribution to rock music, congratulations !!!!
The audience for this music is not large. If it has grown any in recent years, it is due to the blogs. To clarify your "paradox" -- you have converted potential customers into detractors-for-life. Outstanding. Take a bow. Bravo! Author, author!!
Again, who ARE these artists? This list of names means nothing to me. I don't owe them respect. I don't owe them money. I don't owe them attention. Boycotting them is as easy as breathing.
In a niche market, in a dying industry, you and they NEED every bit of good will you can generate, and every potential sale you can get.
It's a small audience, and they are empowered in ways they couldn't even imagine 10 years ago. They don't need you. That's reality. How have you responded to it? You harass them.
You brag about all the blogs you have (temporarily) shut down. You whine and hector and lecture the audience about things that don't even exist, such as their responsibility to keep you afloat.
That's one brilliant survival strategy.
You are now known more for this effort than for the music you are supposedly in the business of marketing. The bands that sign off on it? In case they haven't noticed yet, none of them are ever going to be rock stars. This is all they will ever be known for either.
Again, that is some serious branding. It's a tattoo in the middle of the forehead. Good luck with that.
You know what is really funny as part of your boycott is the option to 'torrent them into oblivion' Haven't you knuckleheads spent most of the last 200 posts claiming that downloads turn to sales? So if you what you are saying is try, and you loaded up all those torrents, we would be painfully wealthy.
You all are so deep in your own lies and self delusion that you can't keep anything straight.
Thanks for the free promotion of legal downloading guys!!
Gert
That was a particularly clumsy change of subject, wasn't it now? "Welcome to my life, tattoo!"
Re torrenting -- it's not as if many involved could be bothered to listen to the music, much less buy it. Your music is SPECIAL. You have made it so. (Very, very special. It's unbearably good, which is why it's so rarely played.) Assuming anyone can be bothered to torrent, it would be more to prove a point. If your aim is to control people and their habits, you have a problem. It can't be done. Attacking a blog is particularly counterproductive. It generates more grudges than you have customers. A blog doesn't have to be involved on any level. Detractors-for-life have a way of replicating, much like data.
Your music is special. You are special. It's all about context. How difficult would it be to bundle in a simple text file explaining the situation? A few choice quotes from proggo, Hansi, yourself and the rest of the putty may endear you all to the torrenting community for eons to come. You would have another new hobby.
If someone wants to listen, that's an option. (Not likely, but an option.) If someone else wants to keep it out of circulation? They can sit there and wait until time, ennui and/or new technologies make the point moot. You can chase that data all across the internet for the rest of your life; it will be beyond you forever.
THAT's the point. Your music has long since found its own level -- it is an afterthought. It would circulate not on its merits, but as a direct result of your own misadventures here.
Just a thought. You do want it off the blogs, don't you?
Yes, we want unauthorized copies off blogs, there are blogs with authorized material and there are many many other places to hear the songs and albums legally that make these blogs pointless. So basically you pirates are caught up in your own web of excuses and lies. If you want to turn people on to music, then write about it and point to legal places to listen to it. If your only real interest, despite your protestations, is to pirate it and help other people to pirate it, then you will do things like post it and put it on torrents. Take a few moments to step back and be honest with yourself about your own habits and your own objectives.
yes pirate killer. Why don't you kill yourself then? lmfao! Also, over the course of my life, I've spent thousands of dollars on first a vinyl collection. And then after that spent around 20.000 dollars replacing to CD. I'll be damned if I'm going to spend more money now on mostly shit bands associated with your label. The greatest music ever recorded from all countries in the world was from the late sixties up to about 1977. So, if I can get some of these nuggets that I still don't have in lossless, you're fucking right I'll be looking for them somewhere.
Great posting. Wisdom and facts. Keep up the good work.
ahhhh... "Pirate Killer."
That tattoo is starting to itch, isn't it? I can tell.
What exactly have you managed to kill, and why won't it stay dead? Can you put out a fire with your bare hands?
Focus, please. This is all about you. And you can't even win an argument.
You and your friends are so 'caught up in your own web of excuses and lies' that you are incapable of conducting an honest conversation. Not even on your own site. (Particularly not on your own site.)
In so doing, you concede the weakness and falsity of your root assumptions.
You have no credibility. Nobody here values your opinion. Nobody asked, and nobody cares. All the rationalizations you've given for your behavior have been heard, examined, dissected, digested, rejected, and spit back into your lap.
You are in no position to lecture anyone about (your) ethics. Please stay on topic. Scroll up. Read again.
You control nothing.
"WE ARE OFF TO THE LABELS & ARTISTS WHO HAS POTENTİAL TO PUT THEİR LISTENERS IN AN ILLEGAL POSITION."
This is the topic?
Sheeesh...I've never seen a more contradictive and stupid announcement in my life.
How are sales? :)
Well, it seems here that you are angry because you can't get music for free. There are plenty of free music on th enet, why do you just not respect the labels that do not want their music given away for free without harrasment ?
Why do people make music? Is it so that other people can listen to it and enjoy it? Or is it because they want to become rich? The copyright industry is finished, just go away and leave the fans and musicians alone...
Well,I know that no one cares what anyone else thinks but I've been collecting prog records for over 30 years and I've only ever heard of 2 of those bands in those lists from this 'record label' above...and both of them were terrible! I feel sorry for the people in all those bands if any of them think they are ever going to get famous and rich. Reading all these comments has been a real laugh!! As if anyone cares about a bunch of prog rock bands/labels/blogs that no one has ever heard of. Why should anyone give a musician respect anyway? Respect? What for? Because they happened to make a record that the person likes? 'Rights'? What rights? The right to exclude their potential fans from hearing their music? These blogs have been the best thing that's happened to music!! Music should never have become 'property' in the first place,it's against the nature of it...it's sort of supposed to be art, isn't it? The whole idea of 'copyright' and the 'industry' that goes with it was a very recent thing in the history of music...and now it's finished,so let's just get on with making some music for the people to listen to...sound fair? I think so. All the industry people will just need to find something else to do,that's all,no problem, good riddance to them I say (in case you can't tell,I'm a musician btw)
