Steven Feigenbaum & Tom Scott - "Things are more like they are now than they ever were before" {USA} [1980] As for information on the artists...I actually know Steve Fiegenbaum, a little. He and I both live in the Washington DC area, and his wonderful project for many years has been the record label he founded and runs, called Cuneiform Records, which includes artists from The Muffins to Univers Zero in its catalogue. http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/ DanPSUNDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2010

Graced Lightning - "The Graced Lightning Side" {USA} [1975] Hi - we just found this posting - we are two of the original members. This record is so rare, we don't even have a copy! Thanks for posting it. We have are still playing, more rock and blues now, so check us out at www.bluetruthchicago.com or www.themauds.com Joan and Gary Gand, keyboards and guitar with Graced Lightning Gand
..........................................................................................................................................................................
Hey to Gary and Joan...I am yet a third member, Chris Herman, on this record. This was recorded in an odd studio in Pekin Illinois...more or less in the middle of a cornfield. I don't remember why we only put 3 tracks on it (other than the cost of recording)...since we had an abundance of material. Chris Wren just sent this to me. Sadly, the playback is disabled on my computer...I'd love to hear it again.
Since recording is so cheap these days, we should do another!

Mariner - "Two (The Ancient Mariner)" {Japan} [1980] Geeze, Does anyone know what happened to the guitarist? I used to be in a band with him after he was in Mariner - while serving in the USAF on Okinawa Japan, Glenn (Forbes?)formed a band and we toured the military bases on the island - I was drumming. I'd love to get ahold of Glenn, and our other band members - been searching for them for 29 years now!! Dan Fisher on Keys, but I forgot the other band members names. The guitarist on the Mariner II album cover is the man - I was only 19 years old when I left Granada Hills, CA and joined the Air Force and found myself in Okinawa circa 1980. I was dying out there in the military - playing drums really helped. My email address is LSzulc@adelphia.net. Our band was called "Bomber". Hope to hear from any band members! Southern Comfort - "Southern Comfort" {USA} [1970] Hi, My name is Bob Jones. I was co-leader ( with Fred Burton ) of Southern Comfort. We were Memphis Soul freaks. ( Booker T, Otis, etc. ) I'm not sure I agree with the "covers" evaluation as many songs were original. Wild Western Cheeta, Mountain Girl, Come and Sit, etc. ). Although Mike contributed writing and Nick produced, they did not play. "Faceless"? I'm on five other Bloomfield albums. I started with We Five as lead guitar player but was playing drums by Southern Comfort time. Janice wanted Fred and I to join her soul band but we wanted her to use all of the group so it never happened. One of our bass players ( Karl Severied ) now plays with Robert Cray. Ron Stallings ( the other singer besides me ) plays with Huey Lewis. I played with Mike on the road for ten years after SC and eventually returned to my home state of Hawaii where I continue to play. Thanks for recognizing us and our work. We were popular with the players at the time ( like Tower of Power ) and in the bay area but couldn't get help from CBS to break out nationally. For more info see www.BobJonesLand.com Bob Jones
..........................................................................................................................................................................
Also, I have a radio show every wednesday from 2-5pm HST on www.ManaoRadio.com. Also I am finishing up a blues album that sounds pretty good. It will revisit and reprise some of the work I did with Mike B. Tune in for a preview.
Thanks

Eardance - "Seek Opposites" {USA} [1982]
Although I was one of the producers of this album (at the age of 22), Jim Jacobsen was the mastermind behind this project (with his college U of Wisconsin-Madison friends). My (then) Electric Fantasy Productions business partner, Paul Berolzheimer, did a brilliant job with the engineering/audio production. Obvious Influences were King Crimson, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, Steve Reich, etc. I believe we pressed 1,000 LPs on Jacobsens "Touch Records" indy label.
Eardance was comprised of the most talented and eclectic group of musicians we had the privilege of recording during that era. Jacobsen taught himself Fripps style of guitar playing and he also mastered the Chapman Stick in just a few weeks (leading up to the start of "Seek Opposites" recording sessions.)
While we were mixing some of the tracks for this album (at Pierce Arrow Recorders in Evanston, IL), Cheap Trick was laying down tracks (in an adjacent studio) with legendary producer, Roy Thomas Baker for their "One On One" album. including the recording of their smash hit "I Want You".
What are some of the reasons this album didnt receive more attention, sales and distribution? 1) It was produced & released independantly in Chicago by newbies in our early to late 20s. 2) Prog Rock was out of vogue in the early 80s (new wave, punk, power pop & hair/glam metal ruled the charts & A interest. 3) Eardance was too eclectic for mainstream interest. 4) In 1982, there was no: MySpace, Facebook, the Blogosphere, iTunes, Rhapsody, uTube, AOL, live365, jango, AOL, Napster, livewire, Kazaa or imesh to find its core audience.

Woah, happened upon this post, and looks like Dave did too (that's David Lamb, Chakra vocalist in the last post), BTW, we were a lot better live--the half-inch 8-tack we recorded on caused us to cut back (and the lack of any kind of reverb at the backyard studio didn't help). Hey, but just had to chime in--glad you found and enjoy the album. I keep threatening to take time to put together a website with pix and some rare recordings...

It's nice, and somewhat surprising, to see the music lives on. I'm with Nigel - this recording really didn't capture the feel of the band. I noticed some edits on a couple of the songs, presumably to cut some defects out of the available recording. Enjoy it.

In The Labyrinth - "The Garden Of Mysteries" {Sweden} [1994] Hi, This is Peter Lindahl moving in to have some heads chopped off! No don´t let me frighten you my dear blogsters! The garden of mysteries cannot be reissued anyway (for various reasons which are too stupid to even mention in this forum) so why not get it out so that everyone can share it! All I demand is that tracks like "Sagarmatha" and "Return to Andorra" (if anyone recognizes these) are to be left alone as they are now part of two new ITL albums, or in fact one reissue of Walking on clouds (distributed by Peacework and soon also iTunes) and one of two forthcoming ITL album releases called Samas antaral. The idea of advertising music on the web is a good idea as long as the add doesn´t rule out the product itself. Or else folks like me will sooner or later run out of steam and hesitate when it comes to bringing out new music to the public and maybe some of you will realize that in the long run this could affect what´s out there for you to harvest! Ok, that was all for now! Especially to Yann I would like to thank you for being so supportive and helpful over the years! Take care! Peter Anonymous

Hi Isabel
Of course you did a great job by posting "The Garden of Mysteries". Like i said, this album is sold out and (quasi) impossible to find (because the first line-up had split, this album will never (?) be reissued, just a question of duties).
The sales can be better for the other albums, that's right.
I think Peter Lindahl is happy to see his music spread on the Web line. Be sure he appreciates that.
There is no misunderstanding.
He just told me : please don't spread "Walking on Clouds" and "Dryad". He knows i'm a blogger. My intention was only to prevent all users that posting these 2 albums would represent a risk for his next project (he has no label today).
Be sure that Peter thanks you for your effort to present his work.
I totally agree the PNF feelings which bring the best of unknown bands.
And your English is perfect (-:
Greetings
Yann

Hi, So Glad you like the Album-
Lyne Bunn here: Vocalist from STARK NAKED (now known in the music world as Joey Lyne) It's been a wild & fun ride! In answer to your question, yes, vinyl can be found internationally thru' archive websites; The album was recently Re-Released on Fallout Records/Forced Exposure on CD, August 2006 with 2 bonus/single tracks...It is for purchase everywhere online and chain stores Internationally.
BTW, We were all ready to record an even greater album when everything went crazy with crooked management...we all ended up in different bands.
I'll keep you posted on my new project - Paul Venier also has some music out on the net if you want to search him out.
I just got back from a Patti Smith concert at NYC's Bowery Ballroom...the main point is no matter what our styles of music are we need to use our VOICES...it's up to the Artists and Musicians to make the changes in this world. Don't be afraid to holler!
Keep it Rockin', Ciao!

Crystalaugur - "Terranaut" {USA} [1973] I'd be happy to give anyone the real story behind this album. Check the back of the cover for the guitarist name. I am that guitarist. I am flattered that this album has made it so far around the internet from humble beginnings in Singapore. I am also shocked to see comments concerning the value of an original pressing. I can be reached at howardkukla@yahoo.com. Howard

Why Yes, son, I Am a Rock Icon
By Kim Bengs ‘75, Bryan Hall ‘77, Greg Kemp ’75, Howard Kukla ’75, and Guy Rittger ‘77
The email
Life took an interesting twist on May 22, 2008 when Howard Kukla (SAS Class of ‘75) sent all of us an email listing a website (http://andthenthechimneyspoke.blogspot.com/) where he had been interviewed about events that happened in Singapore over 33 years ago.
The Album
Circa 1975 - It was a cold, long winter in Singapore….oops, hot, humid winter and a group of guys who were members of the band Crystalaugur were trying to figure out what they wanted to do for Interim Semester. To quote Howard in his interview, “So the band went to the administration with a proposal to make an album (you know, those big round vinyl things most of your parents have in the attic collecting dust). We would write our own music, record it, have it pressed to vinyl and distribute. The result was Terranaut. It is our own work. One of our classmates (Greg Kemp ’77) recorded it on a TEAC or AKAI 4 track reel-to-reel with over-dub of vocals and other sound effects. The artwork was done by the bass player's step-mother. We had the recording pressed by BMI Ltd in Singapore. Only about 200 copies were pressed. We gave them away to friends and family. It was never meant to be a money making venture, just meant to get us through the 2 week semester break.”
Like many groups, Crystalaugur started out by learning a variety of the popular music of the time, including songs by Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Grand Funk Railroad. However, Howard and Kim had already been writing original songs prior to joining the band, and Crystalaugur made the decision to move forward into including original material in performance and recording. A number of these original songs later appeared in the group's "Terranaut" recording.
The album was recorded in the teacher's lounge at King’s Road (in the old headmaster's quarters), and in the school auditorium. The acoustics in the auditorium proved to be quite a challenge, so the group constructed an ad-hoc recording booth made up of free-standing room partitions, pillows, and assorted odds and ends found in the auditorium that day.
Imagine our shock when we ‘Googled’ the name Crystalaugur and found over 1700 hits! Turns out that a European bootleg operation had taken our album and re-released it on CD in 2001. We found that original vinyl copies have sold for over $1000, and cuts from the album have shown up on radio playlists. Some websites called the album "a perfect example of ‘70’s psychedelic rock"; rumors circulated that the album was actually cut by a group of “Native American” Vietnam vets on R&R in Singapore. No, just a bunch of creative teenagers making music together, for a very memorable year.
The most fun we have had with this revelation is that we have been able to receive the unbridled awe and respect of our teenagers, friends and coworkers. Why yes, we are Rock Icons.

Then and Now
Kim Bengs, vocals, guitar, piano was boarding in Singapore for school. Kim later played in his college jazz band, and in rock bands in college and beyond. He's continued to study guitar, especially rock, jazz, and fingerstyle, and is planning to record music for release on the Internet in the near future. He has also worked in the radio side of music off and on since college, currently in a part-time position at 94.9 KLTY in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Kim lives in North Texas with his two teenaged kids.
Bryan Hall, drums, came to Singapore in 1974. He lives in Nashville with his wife Regina and three teenagers. Bryan is a consultant and writer who still travels extensively. Last summer, while in Thailand, he was able to visit with Kim’s parents who are still in the area. He has two books coming out in the next six months, Mano a Mano, a father/son devotional written with his two sons, and What Child is This?, a novel set in Singapore and Malaysia dealing with child slavery. Watch out for them on Amazon.
Howard Kukla, guitar, went on to get an Engineering degree. Howard and his wife Lisa have three kids. Lisa is a nurse with a hospice company in Dallas, Ben is in Athens getting his degree, Jacob is trying to finish HS and Marcus wants his learner’s permit. No wonder he has a full head of grey!
Guy Rittger, bass, arrived in Singapore in 1971. Thirty-three years later, he finds himself in relative middle class comfort, planted in Northern California wine country with a lovely wife, two faithful pit bulls, and a challenging-enough corporate career in information technology. Music remains an important part of his life, filling in the gap between his primary passion - racing sailboats - and the often soul-numbing monotony of his job.
Greg Kemp, sound-man, and technical guru, whose dad is still in Singapore, has wandered the globe and is now in Australia.
But where would we be without our groupies!!! Not! We were, however, blessed to be influenced by some great young ladies, Cara Smith Palier ‘75 was dating Kim and was a major contributor to the project (heck, we all had a crush on her). Married (Mike) with three kids, she spends most of her time drawing, painting, sculpting and designing wearable artwork. Pam Campbell Gerritsen ’77 was dating Howard (earlier in the year she had dated Guy) and was the inspiration for “Pam’s Song”, one of the hits. Pam and her husband of 19 years, Gary, live near Austin, Texas with 4 cats and a yard full of wildlife and birds.
The long hair is now short, gray or gone. Our musical skills have been left to the next generation. But we can shout, WE ARE CRYSTALAUGER. We might even consider a gig next summer at the SAS reunion in Houston. Thanks a lot Howard

Clockwork - "Clockwork" {USA} [1973]
Wow! There's no end to what you can find on the Internet these days. A lot of the music on this album was arranged and rehearsed in my parents' basement in Alliance, Ohio. My brother Dave helped put the band together in the mid 60's. The guys were, and still are, one of the top blue-eyed soul bands around. This was their effort to break out with their own material but the record company never really got behind them. Thanks to all of you who appreciate a good thing when you hear it. If somebody can tell me how, I could upload Country Side Woman.

anonymous.... I've been waiting for this to come out on cd since they were invented. A all-time favorite LP that really should be heard. Like to know who has the master tape. Spoke to the editor of Collectors Choice Music months ago about researching this one. If YOU have the master, give CCM a call and talk about licensing. Just trying to help the music go round and round.

Midnightsun....I have the vinyl. In fact I have 2 copies. I've been trying to contact anonymous as well. There is a Master Tape somewhere that really needs to be remastered to CD. Collector's Choice Music would be interested in this one. I would imagine they would first like to hear a copy which I would gladly supply. I have already contacted to editor of CCM and have also had contact with the Mag. Goldmine. This really needs to be reissued and heard by the masses. A GREAT lost gem undermined by lack of support from the label. Later...Julian

Hello, I'm the anonymous poster. I'm sorry I haven't checked back in a while. The last time I did, there were no more comments. I'd like to help in your efforts but I have no idea where the original master tapes would be if they still exist. I will access the site mentioned and attempt to upload some of the songs I have. Hope you enjoy them. BTW - my name is Gary.

Well, the record label was Greene Bottle Records. That label was a subsidiary of Gulf & Western, and they sold the label to ABC/Dunhill, who in turn was sold to MCA/UMG. The master tape is probably in the vaults of Universal Music. So contact them.

These guys are still performing in the Canton, Ohio area under the name Jimmy and the Soulblazers. If you wanted to get information, their website would be a good place to start.

www.soulblazers.com is the website for Jimmy and the Soul Blazers. You can find the bands email address on that site, which goes directly to the band leader, Jimmy Korleski.
