Mount Everest, Mwendo Dawa, Opposite Corner, Soffgruppen - Det Nyjazzte Från Göteborg (1977, Sverige)

Not the most beautiful album cover artwork this time.

I'm back from a nice relaxing holiday with empty pockets and this one fusion outing from VA in the city of Goteborg, Sweden-- note the presence of huge jazz artists Mount Everest (featured on this website before) and Soffgruppen, one of the greatest fusion bands out of all Scandinavia (in my opinion).   Disappointingly the last track, by this last mentioned, is a free jazz improv and is quite meandering, never really building to the climax one is getting excited for...

Now I have to get back to work to pay for our crazy spending (not entirely my wife's fault this time) as well as the next holiday and bunch of records. Oh boy, looks like the kids won't be getting much for christmas.

Yes, a nice overlook of some of the jazz scene in my homecity during the mid 70's. I saw all of the bands on the compilation live during that time and as live band they were much much better than this albums shows. I myself bought it couple of months ago for very little money. Unfortunately and for various reasons none of the groups exists no more, but a lot of the musicians involved do have a lot of other projects.

Welcome back. We missed you. It was all so quite on the western front without you.

wow, thanks for comments, Stefan, I don't doubt they were wonderful and exciting live, you can hear a bit of this emotion on the soffgruppen actually... How wonderful this must have been to hear them live.

thx to anonymous, I missed you too. What about the eastern front, was it real busy?

RE buddhabreath and Mr Euphoria: boy you "got me started" with the politico-comments. Check my answer to your right wing-left wing dichotomy. There is no such real division. At the end of Easter Island's civilization there was a similar division between the people, who numbered in low thousands, between different religion and beliefs. They instead should've looked at the 'bigger picture' which is that they were a small force on a tiny island who should have all worked together to avoid environmental devastation. Unfortunately, there is a similar artificial division in all "democratic" western countries when the reality is, political power is one entity, and the real needs and problems are with one other entity -- i.e. the ninety-nine percent left out of politics.

... who will be the ones suffering when devastation hits us hard, not the political power factions and corporate entities. All scientists agree that most fossil fuels should be left in the ground. Will any politician democratic or republican or corporation agree to leaving 10 trillion dollars worth of coal and gas in the ground for our children and grandchildren, do you think? Did Obama get a moratorium on new coal power plants?

This is a purely artificial division with the purpose (unconscious of course) to avoid asking the really hard questions: should people get insanely rich at the expense of the poor, the sick, the old, the future?
Should we be stealing from our own children????

Yes, they were. Here's a double Youtube clip with Mwendo Dawa at Montreux 1979. There's an album recorded from this concert as well.
