Chilliwack "St" {Canada} [1970] (Heavy-Rock Progressive)

Ohhh no not a boring north american heavy rock band again! You think, but I think you should give this band a chance. They mix some kind of Heavy rock with a slightley Jethro Tull feeling one some tracks. I get a feeling that they didn't know what kind of music they wanted to play. Some tracks have flute and saxophone and some have riffing guitars. How ever a really good album my favourit tracks are "Sundown" and " Seventeen" the song "I got you" have marvelous guitar solo and a cool cembalo and organ ackompained. So please enjoy this legendary Parrot label release. This is their first album Chilliwack is a little bit confusing becuse both their first and second album are self titled.
Btw this is a vinyl rip just so you know.

Bazaar - "Live" {Denmark} [1978] (world/prog folk)

"The first album from the little know Danish act is an eclectic mix of diverse music styles. Flagged as a Danish folk act, Bazaar could be a lot of things. There are folk influences a plenty here but it is a folk drawn from Northern European as well as Eastern European influences. In fact the band draw heavily from the folk scenes of countries like Bulgaria and Turkey, but play with a twist of Latin music and hints of rock, though they do so with a conservative approach. Bazaar Live, their debut release, is a double album which includes both live and, I think, studio live performances. Recording live in the studio allows the band to retain a chemistry in the improvisations of the music, which keeps fresh and alive. So what we have here with regard to instrumentation includes a mixture of clarinet, bassoon, organ, guitar, timbales, bongos etc... played by the Peter Bastian, Anders Koppel, Mehmet Ozan and Flemming Quist Møller. Much of the album was recorded live in a small hall in Christiania in Denmark. Christiania has a certain notoriety. Founded, well they actually just broke into the unused army base and took over, by a bunch of hippies in the early seventies and is basically an alternative society, while the use of drugs there is quite liberal to say the least, and its inhabitants are something of a law unto themselves. Though in recent times the law has been keeping close tabs on the goings on there. The eclectic mix of the music and free flowing dope must have made for a great night, the album swings and flows with a gentle humour here and there, and all around the music is packed with tightly arranged instrumentation. Fans of diverse folk would be advised to pick up Bazaar Live, and as a piece of useless information; It was engineered by Flemming Rasmussen, the man who would go to produce Metallica's Master Of Puppets album in 1986."

This 2lp set album has released at 78 and reissued at sometime in 90s, It has a little something from everthing, that everyone may find something interesting. Listening this album is like travelling.

hi folks,

here is another elusive morsel from the ever surprising Krautrock bunch.

The only lp by TMA presented an original free jazz fusion a la kraut, a bit like an outrageous Annexus Quam.

It has been totally ignored for years, so I guess it's time it gets the attention it deserves.

Third Ear Band "Abelard and heloise" [1970] (Progressive- Experimental, Classic, Medieval, Drone)

Strange album that mix medieval elements with progressive and then add a drone feeling (maybe the first real drone album?).
Some information:

Abelard & Heloise was the first of two soundtracks to have been commissioned from Third Ear Band; the other was forRoman Polanski's Macbeth. Abelard & Heloise was recorded in 1970 for a film made for release on German television based on the great medieval love story. Like most of their work, this album features the improvised chamber music Third Ear Band developed during the 1970s. While this album is heavy on the hypnotic drone, there are several nice melodic improvisatory sequences, especially on tracks two and five. It's also worth noting that they go don't period with their music for this period film. Simply as a part of a genre, this soundtrack departs significantly from what one expects from a film score, ranging into territory shaped byMick Jagger's work for Kenneth Anger. More than simple counterpoint to the visual information, Third Ear Band seems to have created an independent sonic world, one that would draw the narrative into its very dark space. This album was re-released on the Blueprint label (BP310 CD) in 1999.

Rävjunk - "Uppsala Stadshotell Brinner" {Sweden} [1977]

Initially named Libbet Sväller. The band started around 1975 and are a pre-punkband. Rävjunk means a foxes piss. Played at Hinseberg, a prison for women, alot of times.

Missus Beastly - Two live lps - 1972-73 - KrautPsych

Here are the two mistery lps documenting the great Missus Beastly live in the early Seventies.

They were issued on the obscure Electric Bird label, and are impossibly rare now.

It's classic psych krautrock with a raw edge, and a holy grail for kraut collectors!

Óðmenn "ST" {Iceland} [1970] (Heavy Rock Progressive)

Okey I cant find any kind of information about this band. Some sources says that they were founded in 1966 in the city Keflavik on Iceland and disbanded 1970 the same year they released their one and only album. And I think they released one album and three singles. The singer did also appears on albums with Nattura and Trubrot.
The album it self its some kind of ordinary hard rock/rock (but not boring) album with some progressive moments. Imagine Cream or something like that with over drieen guitars etc but without the blues. But the real masterpiece on this one is the 18 min killer track with a lot of good guitar masturbation.

Skibbereen - "Skibbereen" {Switzerland} [1976] (prog/trad folk rock)

Somewhere it says; Great folk rock, very British. Feat. Düde Dürst, Max Lässer, Ruedi Hoppler, Roland Ambühl, Erwin Bucher, Kathryn Gurewtisch. As i know some of the members have connections/played with well known swiss psych/prog band Krokodil. This is one of the best folk rock album that i have listened for a long time. If you like bands like Pererin,Chimera,Opo.. this one is for you! I enjoyed listening somesongs over and over. Sweet jigs, good female vocal. Any informaions welcome.

Achim Reichel "Die Gruene Reise" {Germany} [1970 ] (Kraut, Space, Psych, Rock)

WOW! Now I understand why Germany its my favourite country when it comes to pumping psychadelic guitar efforts. Mix good rock with a guitar sound that reminds of Manuel Göttsching cut it down to normal length and add some crazy vocals and you got it Achim Reichel. I think this is his first album and his best in my opinion. Here is some information:
As lead guitarist for the beat-era Rattles, Achim Reichel was one of Germany’s rock pioneers. Military service drew him from that band, and upon return he continued in the pop world with Wonderland. At the start of the 70’s however, his interests in Eastern philosophies coincided with the Progressive music now in vogue. Teaming with lyricist Frank Dostal, first up was the psychedelic (and Beatles-esque) Wonderland Band. Recorded with a cast of Hamburg musicians, it gave a glimpse at where Reichel was going. Yet the story really begins in 1971 with The Green Journey, the first album under the moniker A.R. & Machines. Billed as a "soundtrack to the intended motion picture", it certainly is a trip! Reichel recorded the album by himself, adding voice, percussion and electronic effects, with Dostal providing the lyrics. "Machines" refers to the tape recorders that make up Reichel’s signature "echo-guitar". He layers guitar line over guitar line to hypnotic effect, and effectively predates just about everyone that came after (Fripp, Gottsching etc.). The album certainly reveals a hippie naivety of the era, but that should really be seen as its strength: bluesy, mantric and certainly psychedelic, the album is Reichel’s own twist on Krautrock. It culminated in the whacked-out "Truth and Probability", where Reichel layers his voice through the tape machines! The following year would prove to be a busier one with Reichel releasing three albums.

Mosaik - "Mosaik" {Sweden} [1982] (ex Atlas)

It seems Sweden's Atlas never had a very easy time of it, only releasing one album in their six-year history, 1979's Blå Vardag. Ad Perpetuam Memoriam's mid-'90s CD reissue includes several bonus tracks, including one by the post-Atlas outfit, Mosaik, formed by all of Atlas minus one of their two keyboard players, Björn Nielsen. Mosaik is a surprisingly progressive album for the time, although as Isildurs Bane proved, progressive rock didn't completely die out in Sweden in the '80s, though it really wasn't looking too well for a while. Mosaik's a bit of a mixed bag, going from gentle acoustic opener, Återfunnen, through the piano and sax duet Önnestad to the rather overlong Rhodes and MiniMoog jazz workout Re-Båpp, although overall, the band kept the quality pretty high. http://www.planetmellotron.com/revm9.htm

Mount Everest "ST" {Sweden} [1972] (Jazz)

Formed in 1971 by the saxophonist Gilbert Holmström bass player kjell Jansson and the drummer Conny Sjökvist. Their first album was released in 1971 and are in my opinion their best one. They later changed name to Mount Everest Trio and in 1975 they released their album ”Waves from Albert Ayler” (Ayler is a big jazz legend).
What to say about this albumt then? Well its really good classic jazz mixed with modern free jazz you got to love it.

Sourdeline - "Jeanne d'Ayme" {France} [1977] (trad/acid folk)

somewhere it says; Sourdeline : Jeanne d'Ayme ( Discovale 77 FR ) Rarest second album of french mindblowing folk sychedelic in Emmanuel Parrenin vein with great acid parts ( electric & accoustic guitars, percus, sitar, tabla, flute, mandolin, violin... and delicate female vocals ) You see the fist ten time when you see the second only one. Great LP FOC.

Showmen 2 - "Epitaffio" {Italy} [1971] (prog)

Another band coming from a 60's long career, The Showmen from Naples had some hits in 1968 and 1969 with their original blend of soul, rhythm & blues and italian pop, releasing only an LP and a bunch of singles on RCA.
The band had been formed by bassist/singer Mario Musella and sax player James Senese in 1966, and their first single came in 1968. They had a great hit with Un'ora sola ti vorrei, that won the 1968 Cantagiro.
The original group split at the turn of the 70's, with Musella embarking in an unsuccessful solo career (he sadly died in 1979), and Elio D'Anna going to form Osanna.

After a short time Senese and Del Prete, aided by the guitarist Botta (now on bass), reformed the group with a new line-up, more influenced by the current italian rock tendencies. They first released some singles, halfway between the 60's soul of the original line-up and a new sound, then an album simply called Showmen 2 (the group was touring as Showmen 2, but the liner notes refer to them as simply Showmen), from which another single was taken, on the small local label B.B.B., with little promotion.

The album is housed in a stunning heavy gatefold cover and contains a peculiar mix of rock, rhythm & blues, prog, not far from the sound of Chicago or the english band If. The voice has melodic pop influences, but the music is powerful and well played, with strong horn arrangements that make this album unique in the italian prog scene of the time.
Tracks like Abbasso lo zio Tom (also released as a single and with lyrics about racism) or Epitaffio have good lyrics and nice arrangements.

The band disbanded after the album, founders Senese and Del Prete creating Napoli Centrale with a production of three jazz-rock albums in 1975-77.

Much confusion has been made about Showmen's name, with their album being reissued by B.B.B. label as Showmen 2 / Napoli Centrale; a later compilation on the same label (and still simply called with the group's name) mixed tracks from their 60's beat repertoire, the Showmen 2 album and even a Chicago track cover, Introduction, originally included in Mario Musella's solo album from 1973....read more here

Rüzgargülü - "Rüzgargülü" {Germany} [1990] (trad. folk)

at 1987 an author Karl Adamek published a book about German/Turkish folk songs, and as i informed this album first appeared with this book, Three years later at 1990 album reissued and took its place in music markets. Rüzgargülü (windrose in english) was a Turkish-German music ensemble, that made their journeys thru turkish and german anonymous folk songs.at 90s they were better known with their works, concerts and research of folk music, Altough the album stands for its melodies & rhytmm (like most of the folk) lyrics takes its role in this album. it remind me other bands like Grup Yorum,Kızılırmak that i used to listen a lot in the past. I dont think this band can be named as protest folk, however there is a left wing mood can be felt with selecting of rythmms and some songs.. finaly i want to say that, i listened many songs written for Sacco & Vanzetti, but this one is the nicer & different one that i listened, I wanted to copy/paste some information for Sacco & Vanzetti at the following paragraphs; This album is enough good not to be forgotten. The story of two Italian-born anarchists, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, framed for murder and then executed for their beliefs.

Sacco and Vanzetti were committed anarchists who had been active in many workers' struggles. In 1916, Sacco was arrested for taking part in a demonstration in solidarity with workers on strike in Minnesota. In the same year he took part in a strike in a factory in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It was here that he met Bartolomeo Vanzetti, who was one of the principal organisers of that strike. Like most anarchists, the two were also active in their opposition to the First World War.

Severe poverty in the post-war years meant that many workers were dissatisfied with the status quo. The authorities were terrified that workers might follow the example of the Russian Revolution, and were doing everything in their power to portray communism and anarchism as 'un-American', and to frighten workers way from 'red' propaganda.

Fantasy - "Vivariatum" (1970-76) {UK} [1994] (Prog Rock)

The story of this band started at the Chapel Farm, a farmhouse near Gravesend (Kent) were the band had their first rehearsals. It was the family home of singer Paul Petley, other musicians were Geoff Whitehorn (electric guitar), Paul Lawrence (acoustic guitar/vocals), David Metcalfe (keyboards), David Read (bass guitar) and Brian Chatham (drums), later replaced by John Webster. The lead guitar was by the promising Bob Vann but he died in a car accident, he was replaced by Pete James. The new line-up FANTASY sent a demo tape to the label Decca and changed their name in FIREQUEEN. But Polydor was also interested and they pursuaded the band to sign for them. Again the band decided to change their name, it became FANTASY, a name that fitted more to the style and flavour of the music. The debut album was called "Paint A Picture" and released in '73 (now on CD). Soon FANTASY belonged to the past, the tapes for a next album remained in the vaults of time.

Fortunately the label Audio Archives released these tapes as a CD called "Beyond The Beyond". This one is an absolute beauty and it contains nine very refined compositions with warm vocals and 12-string acoustic guitars, flowing and sensitive electric guitar and lots of Hammond organ and Mellotron. The highlight on this album is the track Alexandrie (almost 9 minutes) with the Mellotron in all its splendor: majestic eruptions and beautiful waves along a typical Sixties sounding organ. Shin Jung Hyun and the Men - Woman of the Evening Sun (1972 South Korea)

Woman of the Evening Sun has a lot more singing in it than the follow up. The psychedelic vibe is in full effect; this sounds like a Korean Doors band. It's more slower paced though. The second album is faster paced too and more progressive in a sense. The music is heartfelt and very nature-esque. Beautiful Rivers and Mountains definitely portrays that well. Calliope - "Elvirágzik" {Hungary} [2002] (pre-NeoFolk)

Calliope was formed during fall 1996 in Pécs. The band - which was started to play in a quartet formation (cello, voice; guitar; bass and drums) - has played their debut concert at the first Anti-Drug Festival in Pécs. Since then, they play frequently in various clubs and cafeterias.
During late 1997, they have recorded an demo album titled Incognita. The record was published by Crossroads Records, an independent music publishing company.
In fall 1998 Gyula VERES joined the band with his tenor and soprano sax, he is playing an important role in forming the sound of the band, as well as acting in the composition of new pieces.
In summer 1999 the band won the award of the XX. Kaláka Folk Festival, one of the most famous and prestigous international folk events of Europe.

its a pity..no good information on web for this title..one of the rarest asian fusion came up to the scene from turkmenistan.album have 3 songs.put some light folky scales,good solos,hiperactivity..this is firyuza..if you have information/knowledge dont hesistate to share in comments..keep listenng!

Nemesis - "Nemesis" {Greece} [1976-8] (unreleased prog lp)

Never released recordings from this great greek band. They played hard progressive rock. All tracks are between 1976-78 but recorded in studio in 1979. Spring of 1980 played support to Socrates. Complex rhythms, lots of guitars, mellotron and keyboards. English vocals. Anazitisi records released this for sometime ago in Lp form at small amounts. You may order one copy from here It quickly become one of my favorite, a true hidden treasure of greek rock history. This is for the friends who enjoy the yes side of prog.

Zappatta Schmidt - "It's Gonna Get You" {USA} [1971] (funky hard prog)

Somewhere it says; "...My knowledge on this band is practically non-existent. Did these guys really exist as a band? Or were they just drafted in to cut this record. Its all very mysterious as the writing credits mainly to Eddy Grant (who also produced the lp) and there are no players listed. I'm no expert in Eddie's vocal talents...but is that him singing on this?? Sure kind of makes sense if it is. I would never associate Eddy Grant with heavy afro funk but thats the general slant of this lp - Heavy heavy organ funk that isn't so much about songs...more like grooves! Three of the tracks are over 8 minutes long so they are really jamming along here. Its hard to a fave track but 'Freedom' is possibly up there. It has a very long morose intro and then just drops into fuzz guitar that just rips into a funky rocker. Phew..." read more here
otherplace album described as; "...If you can figure this album out, you're a better man then me. It's psych rock to be sure, but with a really weird blend of songs. Funk heads want it for the 8 minute "Sweet Jam" which is as good as advertised - a heavy, mid-tempo groover. All things considered though, this is more of a collector's trophy than a record that you'd actually want to play out...." read more here

Regrelh - "Cant dels Trobadors" {France} [1979] (psych acid folk)

Somewhere it says "A real masterpiece From French acid folk scene. Concept album mix electronic and folk psych religious with dark atmosfer, some effects, synthe, percusions, sinister vocals, violin, alternate acoustic and electric guitar soli. Very strange album, but highly recommended. Housed in dark gatefold sleeve. INS." a hidden treasure.

2. Edzayawa - Projection One 1973

Around the same time as the legendary Blo "Phase 1" LP. Recorded May 1973 in Lagos, Nigeria. Nana Danso is still today one of the most progressive and interesting characters in Ghanaian music now fronting the Pan-African Orchestra, this was his earliest band and recording project and takes in a whole bunch of influences from heavy afro-beat to funk, rock and African music forms. It´s one of the rarest Nigerian LP´s. if you like the early Blo sound, Fela Kuti, Bunzu Soundz, Nedzolleh Soundz but not the later more generic Nigerian pop that often is described as afro music then this one´s for you. It´s heavy and original. As the sleeve notes say "'Projection one' will be loved and hated for it´s incomparable precedence".

France) 1981 private. Catastrophe's sole album reminds me a lot of Missus Beastly circa their brilliant 1974 album. Take away the flute and piano and add a hot guitarist plus a MONSTER Jannick Top like bassist! Frenzied and energetic. A corker.
