The Living Room – “Chambers” {Germany} [1997] @320 kbps – (German ultra trippy Psychfolkpop)

Recently I had a discussion with a friend about the private pressings… yep, that private ones that appears in tiny quantities and with time they acquire legendary status.

I argued that the so called “legendary status” in many cases is crap, I mean, I know a lot of good collectors, with a “trained ear” that has called me in the middle of the night with the usual: -

“What’s up buddy? Come Hurry!, the last shipment of music already arrived, there are some tasty private pressings I ordered you must see”

Then, I arrived and see one of the “Holy Grails” with four kids picking at his noses in the cover, I doubt a little (I always try to gave all the music I heard the benefit of the doubt, no matter genre, country, style, etc.) but he assured me that this was the ONE, that were recorded in the middle of the jungle of Borneo by a bunch of kids that got lost in a school trip aided by cannibals, only ½ a copy remains because the rest were eaten with the members of the band included. (Sorry exaggerating a little J). Then we hear the band and are as common as some of the most mainstream artists, just add echo and a bad mastering.

That was just my thoughts about the private pressings issue, but hey, there are also a lot of gems, and my work today is bringing one of those to you: The Living Room.

“Chambers” (1997) is up to date the only recording by The Living Room, there are only 500 copies of this gem, but I can assure you that contains all the positive attributes commonly associated with legendary private pressings: pure delightfully lo-fi (this no means bad sound), creative freedom, nice sonic manipulations, and of course the vibe of one well handcrafted artifact made with tons of love and spontaneity.

The recipe for this BOMBASTICHELLOFAWORK is:

  • 1 cup of 13th floor Elevators classic garage rock
  • 2 Spoons of west coast John Cipollina guitar sound.
  • ½ metronomic rhythm of Stereolab
  • A bit of female vocals
  • Some oriental instruments a la Incredible String Band (Sitar, Flute, Didgeridoo)
  • A teaspoon of Pink Floyd’s Farfisa sound.
  • A piece of Sonic Trickery “a la Can”

Trust me this is a sonic space cake! So eat it very slow;)

Finally, many thanks to Kai Becker and his bunch for such a snack!!!!

Hi!

Thx for so many GREAT titles.

In this case, it's a real find.

Btw, tracks 5 and 6 are both called "Inside".

I tried to search the internet, but I can't find the track list.

Can you please help me with this?

Thx again for the music.
